Explore IX Water: Innovative Industrial Wastewater Treatment & Recycling

Almonds could use produced water!

Beautiful, aren’t they? They are the blossoms of almond trees! Almonds are native to Iran and surrounding countries. The U.S. grows them mainly in California. Tasty and nutritious, almond trees require a LOT of water, which is in short supply in CA. But CA does generate a lot of water – from, wait for it – drilling for oil…! Yes, drilling for oil generates gazillions of wastewater from the earth. Now, this wastewater is toxic, but it CAN be treated/cleaned safely for use in agriculture – like growing almond trees. And, it can be treated onsite at the drilling pad – this water doesn’t have to be shipped offsite for treatment – a very expensive trip indeed.
